Maternity Session FAQ

When should I schedule my maternity session?
I generally schedule maternity sessions between the 32nd and 36th weeks. We don't want to wait too late because you'll never know when the baby will actually come. Besides most pregnant women feel very uncomfortable during their last 2 to 3 weeks of pregnancy. We also don't want to do it too early as you want to have a big enough belly to show in your photos.

I recommend to call me at least before you are 30 weeks so you can be certain that we can fit you in my schedule.

Where will we do the session?
Sessions can be done in a variety of locations. I can come to your home, you can come to mine, or we can scout out fun and unique locations. I LOVE outdoor shoots (weather permitting) because natural light is divine. Great locations include parks, fields, farms, and urban downtown settings. I love to try new things so I am up for anything!

If we shoot indoors at your home, I will need ample light. Think bay windows or sliding glass doors. If you want to do an indoor shoot and you do not feel that you have enough natural light, you are always welcome at my house! I have a great bay window that pours in gorgeous natural light!

What should I wear?
I am all for outfit changes! First and formost, wear what is most comfortable and most "you".

Clothing for maternity photo shoots should be tight-fitting around the belly. Loose and baggy shirts and pants will only hide the pregnant stomach. Stretch pants and pants that have low waistlines won't bunch up as the woman is posing or sitting, and are a good idea to wear during a shoot. In addition, tight-fitting tank tops and maternity tops that have thin fabrics that cling to the body are also good choices for maternity portraits. Regular jeans un-bottoned always look great!

Keep clothing selections for maternity portraits simple. Stripes and busy patterns can hide the stomach or detract attention away from it. Instead, stick with solid colors.

Can I include my husband or children in the session?
Yes! With maternity sessions, we can include up to 3 members. I really recommend having some photos that include your family. It's always important to capture that very amazing moment of your life with the most special people.
